DRIVEN is On The Hush!
Hi There,
As I write this week’s message, I’m feeling both giddy and guilty. It was only last week that I boasted about my successful efforts in creating a Cadence for networking. Well, today I have BIG NEWS that is counterintuitive to what I’d thought was an essential tool for my business and career.
I’m hereby drawing a line in the sand and doing something that’s best for my emotional, mental and spiritual energy. Instead of adding, I’m actually subtracting something from my to-do list. Since I’m dedicated to both enhancing my career and continuing to train for my life marathon, I considered what to eliminate to live a healthier life right now that wouldn’t negatively impact my future.
First, I dug into Byron Katie’s Four Questions, using my aspiration to drop a practice as the focal point of the exercise:
Question 1: Is it true?
Question 2: Can you absolutely know it’s true?
Question 3: How do you react—what happens—when you believe that thought?
Question 4: Who would you be without the thought?
Then, I journaled about these solid questions, and my answers confirmed my desire. When I finally verbalized my decision out loud to a cherished colleague, I was a bit nervous to hear the voice behind the thought. But afterward, I felt like 50 pounds floated off my shoulders (Cue the angels singing!)
Now, I’m writing it for the first time, and I continue to feel nervous energy in my belly. So here it goes: “As a service provider, my social media presence is not important.”
DRIVEN is officially exiting social media! We will no longer be active on Facebook or Twitter. DRIVEN won’t post on LinkedIn either, but I, speaking for myself, will continue to.
Besides checking out Facebook on my birthday, the only time I’ve found social media to be useful was when I posted about something I was personally passionate about— I, the person…not the businessperson.
The rest of the time, my amazing Social Media partner Molly Elbert kindly and patiently prodded me, poked me, and dealt with me falling short of what I could have done to enhance the DRIVEN brand. But ironically, when I thought about what was important for business, social media no longer made the list. Thanks to my network and referrals, DRIVEN is on-track, on-point and now, on the hush.
What do you think of as essential to your life’s success that also drains you? I invite you to use Byron Katie’s Four Questions to check in with yourself, honestly. You may be spirited by your answer.
Cheers!
-Deborah
