Emotional Fortification.

Hi There,

Following the release of my recent article about Emotional Resilience, it’s interesting how the topic continues to enter the conversation. And it’s noteworthy to witness the universal response to my question, “How often do you catch yourself feeling irritable, impatient, frustrated, helpless, judgmental or anxious each day?”. I can feel you counting in your mind, and I’m curious whether you considered the three steps offered to build Emotional Resilience.

I had leaked the answers regarding “What” to do for Self-Care before we formally addressed the stress on our emotional resilience. And truthfully, none of these suggestions were magical “new” ideas. However, the motivation to employ these steps will inspire you to move from the “What” to the “How” in applying self-care to your demanding life.

Emotional Resilience and Self-Care happen to enjoy a symbiotic relationship. Think about when you’re feeling frustrated, stressed or regretful. You’re more likely to find yourself neck-deep in a pint of ice cream than taking a hike. Likewise, when you’re sleeping well and eating healthfully, your energy is high and your ideas flourish. It’s clear that when our foundational practices are compromised, our emotional resilience becomes weakened. This, in turn, threatens the end of those practices altogether. The trick is to ensure that you attend to the tiniest of habits and practices, which can add up to emotional fortification.

When the “How” is the question, the answer is, “What gets counted gets done.” One solution my clients love is the Habit Tracker. DRIVEN has created this handy and effective guide to determine which habits you’ll employ, with a feature to track your progress. For me, it’s my morning pushups and crunches. Not only do these daily practices keep my body’s core strong and aligned, but they also send a subconscious signal that I’m taking care of myself. What great emotional perspective! Expect more on perspective in next week’s email; for now, check out the Habit Tracker and tell me how you like it!

Cheers!
-Deborah
